Scheme Coal Pit Lane Active Corridor

Creating a quiet route for active modes by implementing point closure(s) and other improvements

Scheme description

The aim of the scheme is to provide a quiet route for residents to utilise from the White Bank Road Estate and the emerging new housing development on Coal Pit Lane. This will be achieved by removing access to vehicles on a section of Coal Pit lane, the route will no longer be used by speeding cars and for rat running. The scheme aims to reduce the number of vehicles being used for short journeys and mitigate the issue of having no footways on this section of Coal Pit Lane making it very dangerous to walk along. The proposed scheme will create a quiet route for cyclists and pedestrians by implementing a point closure between White Bank Road towards the Ashton Road junction and will include improvements to provide an attractive and safe route for users. In addition to this, with the available space, place making features will be incorporated into design.
