Scheme description
The scheme proposes to:
Reduce the volume of vehicles using this route
Control the speed of traffic on this section of the network
Provide cycling facilities
Provide a safe pedestrian route
Make enhancements for vulnerable road users
This will be achieved by:
Implementing a modal filter at Chapel Street / Sandy Lane.
Providing continuous side road crossings.
Footway widening.
A one-way traffic route with a cycle contraflow created by reallocating the existing carriageway back to cyclists.
Providing kerb to kerb junction plateaus and crossings.
Developing the existing 20mph zone by extending it to cover the majority of the district centre to encourage modal shift and to reduce average motor vehicle speeds, road traffic injury severities and collision frequencies involving pedestrians and cyclists.
Installing speed cushions.
