Scheme description
A closure at each end of St Leonard's Street is proposed and would offer the whole of the space to cyclists and pedestrians only, with a prohibition of driving Traffic Regulation Order included. The proposed point closure scheme will address the concerns raised about anti-social behaviour which, to date, is all associated with vehicles. While vehicles do access St Leonard's Street it is very rarely used as a through route by vehicles. The point closure would also help to make the route more attractive to sustainable transport modes to access, Jubilee Park, Middleton Library, St Leonard's Parish Church and onwards to the town centre / residential zones. Importantly, the St Leonard's Street closure could be linked to future elements of the Middleton Masterplan.
