Hear from women and girls who cycle
Khadija Patel, Founder of KRIMMZ Girls Youth Club
“Don’t worry about being perfect, everyone starts somewhere. Take your time, build confidence gradually, and enjoy the journey. Find supportive people to ride with and remember that every small achievement matters.”
Helen Bell, Dietitian and Cycle Instructor
“Start local, find some quiet roads, a park or designated cycle routes. You might like to ask a friend to ride with you or find a local cycling group.”
Beth Craigen, Outdoor Instructor
“There are loads of great community‑led organisations in Greater Manchester who can offer access to bikes, learn to ride and confidence‑building cycling sessions. Make the most of this to build your confidence and then just get out and ride."
Hannah Jeffares, Primary School Teacher
“You don’t have to have all the stuff or even call yourself a cyclist. I don’t see myself as ‘a cyclist’, I just like to ride my bike places!”
Evelyn Oldale, British Cycling Community Coach
“Just to get out on your bike whenever you feel like it! Enjoy it, enjoy practicing skills, enjoy the feeling of freedom whenever you ride! You can never ride too much when you enjoy it!”
Stella Smith, Senior Project Manager
“Any bike will do! Pump up the tyres (it will save your legs!), check the brakes and off you go! Join a local friendly group or go out with your friends - it can be less daunting at first, and you’ll discover new routes and enjoy a chat along the way.”
Let’s get you cycling with confidence
We know cycling can feel daunting, whether you’re just learning, haven’t cycled in a while or would feel safer cycling in a group to navigate your local area.
That’s why we’re working with community groups to offer you help and tips to becoming a confident cyclist.
Our women-led cycling groups ensure you get the support you need in a safe and welcoming environment without judgement. Whether you want to ride a short way to a café or want to get confident on the roads our Greater Manchester’s women-led groups cater for all needs.
No bike? No problem. Check out our get a bike page for info on bike libraries, free e-bike loans and more.
If you want to learn more about how to maintain your bike we also offer maintenance courses to help you feel confident in fixing common problems for a small fee. Explore our maintenance courses.
